If you have kids in your life, or if you are playful at heart, you'll love this new book by Nick Neddo. The Organic Artist for Kids is filled with nature-based art projects that little hands will love to explore. As both an educator and a parent, I'm passionate about learning in nature. I think spending ample time outdoors is good for our bodies and minds, and the early years are a perfect time to root into a connection to place.

For our first project, I helped the girls carve drawing sticks. Both my 3 year old and 7 year old were deeply engaged in drawing with ink. Without any discussion or prompting, they drew sunflowers, clover, and bees - all things they have been observing in our garden.

I love how my 7 year old captured the clover and bees she had been observing!

We used freshly carved sticks from our garden and Chinese ink that I have leftover from art school days.
