Meet the must-have Caran d'Ache Pastels

They’re wax, they’re water-soluble, they’re pastels...wait, WHAT? What are Caran d’Ache Neocolour IIs? They’re LOVELY and you should definitely have at least a handful of them.

These Swiss beauties can be used wet or dry in sketchbooks, on top of watercolour paintings, acrylic paintings, wood panels and most surfaces you try them on. You can use them like a drawing tool, or you can rub them onto a palette and then paint with them using a watercolour brush. Or just smudge them around with your fingers like any respectable art journaler would!

My favourite ways to use them are:

* to dip them in water then splatter the drops of my page

* to use pops of dry colour on top of my watercolour paintings

* to dip them in water and then blend them into wet pools of watercolour

colours I currently love:

* Payne's Grey, Jade Green, Moss Green, Night Blue, Olive, Olive Brown, Light Cobalt Blue Hue, Turquoise Blue, Sky Blue, White, Beige
